Using the Rubin Color Filter Tool

The six broadband (ugrizy) filters in the Rubin LSSTCam create opportunities for a greater diversity of science investigations. However, as you have learned, all six filters are not needed to create a color balanced image that conveys a science message. What’s important is that the appropriate set of filters are selected for the science case.

Interaction

  1. An image will appear when you select filters. Your goal is to create a color balanced image that shows where star formation is occurring in the galaxy.

    • Click on the filters you wish to use (it’s not necessary to use all six filters).
    • Assign a color to each filter using chromatic ordering.
    • Adjust the intensity sliders to create a color balanced image.

You should now see a full color image of UGC12635, made by combining the light from the filters you chose. Data from the HSC-SSP and CLAUDS Surveys
