Putting it all Together

You have investigated how to color balance and chromatically order an image to communicate scientific information. Using the color filter tools, you have:

  • Identified the hottest and coolest stars in a star cluster (see page 12)
  • Located star forming regions in a spiral galaxy (see page 14)
  • Detected far away galaxies (see page 16)

Next you will create a new color image and investigate a scientific question of your choosing.

Questions

The Antennae Galaxies are a pair of distorted colliding spiral galaxies about 70 million light-years away, in the constellation of Corvus (The Crow). Credit: Radio: ALMA (ESO/NAOJ/NRAO) and visible light: NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope

Think about a question that you want to answer about your object. You may choose a question from the list below or develop your own question:

  • Which are the hottest and coolest stars in a cluster?

  • Where are the star forming regions in a galaxy?

  • Which is a very far away galaxy?
